Religious Education
As a Church School, RE is a priority of our school. It is a core subject so the teaching and learning of RE and standards achieved are closely monitored. Religious Education at St Mary's is based on the Cornwall Agreed Syllabus where Christianity is studied for more than 50% of the time. In Key Stage One the children also learn about Jewish, Muslim and non-religious worldviews. At Key Stage Two this is extended to Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and non-religious worldviews. All religious and non-religious views are considered important at St Mary's. There are also Curriculum Kernewek units where the children learn about the very special and unique heritage in Cornwall. NATRE enhanced teaching resources are used to deliver RE across the school in a consistent and progressive way.
RE is taught as an engaging, inclusive and enquiry-led subject, open to all and at the centre of the curriculum, and we would hope that all parents would understand the value of this for all children. However, parents do have a right by law to withdraw their children from Religious Education lessons. Requests for full or partial withdrawal need to be made to the headteacher.
